Brief History

When i was first starting out in the world of balloon twisting about 3 years ago,i remember browsing the internet and being inspired by what can be done with just balloons. I must say that the balloons

i saw were pretty impressive, but there was one sculpture in particular that caught my eye. That sculpture was the balloon Biplane by David Grist

The Mindset

At first you take a look at the plane and admire it, then when you think about building one it is quite intimidating. After all it takes about 50-100 balloons and a couple of hours just to complete it. As opposed to a normal balloon sculpture that takes only 1-5 balloons and take 3-4 minutes. Luckily a fellow performer taught me this valuable lesson. It goes “if you want to become the top in your market, you do what no body else is willing to do.By doing this you set the standard and become to go to choice when people are looking for the best entertainer.” This saying really stuck to me and encouraged me to build larger, and better balloon sculptures. After all the maximum potential of a balloon artist can not be pushed if one’s mindset is stuck on the standard dogs and swords.

The Opportunity

Now all i needed was an excuse to build this plane….

The opportunity came when a client requested a balloon airplane centerpiece. I could have made an average balloon airplane (which the client still would have loved). But NO….I wanted to make a balloon biplane that everyone would talk about instead. I’m very glad to say that everyone at that party loved it. I had a lot of fun making this balloon biplane centerpiece and the reactions i got to this sculpture made it all worthwhile.
